"guess i never wanted to be kneeling at your shrine" - an element of sour grapes in this one, more to do with a degree of disillusionment at unreliable disembodied entities as with a failed relationship.

"Byker Bridge is calling!" - we used to rehearse in Polestar, just under the Byker Bridge, site of several tragic falls.

about

All payments received will be donated to Newcastle Women's Aid, registered charity 1139393

Rufus Beer were a band in the rich and varied early nineties' Newcastle local band scene. Formed in Stannington Terrace, Heaton, in late 1992, and named after one of Les or Lee's mates, they played loads of gigs, recorded three EPs, and wound down by mid-1995, Les going on to form Superjudge and Nev playing solo acoustic sets as Brenda System. They were, at one point, offered a deal by a geezer connected to the Happy Mondays, but rejected his comedic contract and his two suggestions (both wise, in retrospect) that they start wearing black and let Les sing all the songs. Owen now works in a music shop, and Lee (amongst other things) runs the annual Tusk festival in Newcastle. We rocked!

PS of course, I'm grimly ashamed of my execrable vocals (and fairly puerile lyrics), which stand in sharp contrast to Les and Lee's. I just didn't have the lungs for it. Still, these are the lads that gave me a chance and got me playing live.
