Gasometers they rise and fall, too slow to see them breathing, just like the shadow that comes and goes between desire and grieving. just like the shadow that comes and goes, I know where this is heading. When could I ever say no to you? Of course I'll sing at your wedding. I lost my marbles years ago - they look better on you: glowing softly at your throat like some segmented rainbow, reflected in your engagement ring - that small, surprising halo. Of course I'll sing at your wedding - when could I ever say no? The wedding singers come and go between the cake and the speeches. They take the stage and take a bow between the ring and the disco. Between the ring and the disco, between the truth and pretending. When could I ever say no to you? Of course I'll sing at your wedding.

unreachable, perhaps I put you on a pedestal, or is it just that from the trench I'm in you're unreachable? Unreachable, and the gulf between unsailable, you're in view but unavailable, you're unreachable. Unreachable, and the walls around unbreachable - each alone, though the other's standing near. But even with your arms around me and your gentle kiss, I can't feel you, and it's me that is unreachable.

leaving do 02:57
Tonight it's your big leaving do, and my last chance to say goodbye. behind your friends I'll join the queue. I loved you in a quiet way. In loads of workplaces, I suppose, two people like us part each day, one unaware the other holds a love, but in a quiet way. I'm looking for a taxi now, and your best friends are still with you. At least I took the chance to say I love you in a quiet way.

about

i see this as a 7" single. Tracks recorded round Dave Scott's on 22.2.14, with 4 cans of stella and a pepperoni pizza. The prominent "squeaks" in the background on "Unreachable" aren't farts or the groans of an old rocking chair - they're the sound of my left thumb squeaking against the neck of my trusty old £94 Tanglewood. I first played The Wedding Singers the night after I wrote it, supporting Richard Dawson at the Old Cinema Launderette in Gilesgate, Durham. next time I played it was at the Cumberland Arms, supporting Beccy Owen at her Imago CD launch. Hope you like it.

Thanks to Dave Scott in the big chair, holding the mic, tweaking the sound, and generally being an amazing bloke. And IB.
