about

another paean for lost love, set amongst the crumbling, and soothing, ruins of Byker (and capitalism, ha ha). If you live in sunderland, substitute the words "vaux brewery" for "dead factories". Recorded at Dave Scott's expansive Clarendon recording suite over a few cans last night. PS the "favourite old pub" is, of course, the Cumberland Arms in Byker.

lyrics

this old pub that we're in, it's a favourite of mine - I sang here years ago with a simpler mind. We could have a good night, keep it easy and light, as long as I don't fall in love with you. I love this end of town, with its derelict charm, like a promise that time will demolish us all. By the dead factories and these boarded up streets, I could easily fall in love with you. This placatory smile is a trademark of mine but, as others have found, an ambiguous sign - this one's an apology for what's happening to me: I'm about to fall in love with you.
