hedgerow (demo)

about

The little hedgerow between the abandoned Lexus garage and the big Sainsbury's in High Heaton has looked pretty ropy over the winter, so I was delighted to see a few signs of life this morning - so delighted that I decided to release this, just a demo of a track that will be on my new record "Strummer" at some point later in the year. A sort of hopeful hymn to the demise of latter-day capitalism, and a celebration of hedgerows everywhere. This one's given me a lot of quiet delight over the years.

lyrics

The car dealership has gone from north of the Coast Road. Where once was fancy paintwork just an empty forecourt where a spiral of bus tickets slowly waltzes with all the crap that you find in a hedgerow. Take the narrow tarmac road stained with diesel around the back of the big Sainsbury's from the graveyard. Just between the darkened showroom and the carpark, there it is, it's my favourite hedgerow. Though conspicuous consumption has departed, there's still plenty to eat for the sparrows in there. They go quiet when I stumble past with my shopping, feeling like I've been dragged backwards through a hedgerow.
