Not my usual fare - I tend to steer clear of the metaphorical - but this song has been rattling around my head for a while (and the idea for years), so I took the opportunity presented by a sore throat yesterday (Spring Equinox) to record it. Apart from expressing my love of pylons, gulls and archaeology, it's a reflection of sorts on what Re-Evaluation Counselling calls "latent patterns" that emerge (like that sunken village) when folks are stressed. You know what I mean. Nowt fancy on the gtr, just a crappy 4 chord thing played in standard tuning (dropped a tone).

I love to see the pylons stretching over the fields into the grey-blue distance. I love to see gulls congregating behind a tractor ploughing up the past. Cropmarks appear when fields are dry, parts of the self you barely recognise. In times of drought your cropmarks show faint traces of what lies below. Between the bedrock and the topsoil, above the flooded honeycomb of mines, geometry of the forgotten, like buried trauma waiting for the light. The reservoir is running dry, the sunken village reappears like Brigadoon - anachronistic and derelict, a map of loss and pain in stone. I love to see the pylons stretching over the fields into the distant grey. Sometimes I feel like I'm a camera drifting high above your haunted terrain.
